After working and lecturing in design & photography, I decided to study painting in the New York Studio School. I now paint in Wickham Street Studios, Limerick, Ireland.
Artists' Statement
Paintings can be a space to rest and to wonder. Worked from life initially, my paintings find their way to completion after months of experimenting and layer building, this work assists to create visual richness and depth. Two great colourists are influencing now, Richard Diebenkorn and Pierre Bonnard. Though representational in the main, the paintings are vague or unclear in places, this vagueness is an enticement to wonder, allowing for different interpretations of the space within the painting.
Engagement with the work over time allows your subconscious to absorb and to process colour and depth in different ways, interpretation of the painting can be infinite. A space for you to dream can open, a fascinating space that abstract artworks create, like the subconscious space created and occupied by music. I hope the compositions, the colours and textures in these works combine for an audience - to make this dream-space happen.

Sean and I became quite close.
Awards
1st Prize Adare Plein Air 2022 John Shinnors adjudicated and awarded this prize.
He remarked “ I would have approached this painting in exactly the same way, very nice brushwork… a beautiful painting”
